A Day at the Park

Alice twirled around in her dress, the sun shining down on her smiling face. She always loved to watch passers by and lay under trees, the soft wind against her skin. Today was an ordinary day in her strange new home, and she was hopeful she could meet a friendly face.

There do certainly seem like a number of people are out today... she thought as she stretched out. None seem to jump out at me, though. And a nice little nap would certainly be nice.

She fluttered over to a large tree overlooking the side of a hill, and crossed her arms behind her head. The birds overhead sang beautiful songs, and the wind was the only noise aside. She soon found herself day dreaming.

Aveira had been asleep in a large tree overlooking a hill. She'd stayed up for the past three nights and it was beginning to take a toll on her body. Only a few hours prior, she'd found herself too tired to function properly and had climbed the tree in order to take a nice, relaxing nap. So it was for this reason that Aveira was so confused when she was woken up by the presence of a young girl standing below her resting place.

Her eyes stayed closed beneath her purple blindfold, but her senses became aware. She sat up, stretched, and hopped down from the tree, landing beside the girl with barely a sound. Her head was foggier than usual, suppressing most of her cognitive abilities. Perhaps it was this reason that she spoke to the girl in a language that no longer existed. "⌇⌘⌀⌁⌳ ∝≚≌∷≀≬⊖?"

"I don't understand..." Alice began, her smile overcome with confusion, "I'm sorry. Do you happen to speak English?" She turned to see the strange blindfolded woman beside her.

How did she get here so quietly? Alice pondered. No worry, surely she would have attacked me by now had she been hostile... right?

None the less, Alice bowed slightly and awaited her reply.

Aveira blinked, confused by the language she'd accidentally spoken. Where had that come from? It was probably just a fragment of a memory surfacing. Whatever it was, it was gone now, and she could no longer remember any of what she said. Fortunately, she knew what she'd intended to say and was able to simply speak that in English. "Who are you?"

Her voice was soft and ethereal; she wasn't yet awake enough for it to take on its harsher tones. Her hands twitched at her side as she reached up to take off the blindfold in a useless effort to see the girl. Her pale lavender eyes stared off somewhere over the other's shoulder as she focused on her voice. It was obvious that she was blind.

Alice joyfully extended her right hand, her fears soothed by the woman's smooth voice.
"My name is Alice. I just recently came here." She gave a sincere smile. "Might I ask your name?"

Alice, looking the woman up and down, took note of her eyes, staring into the distance. If she's not blind, she's extremely shy, though that would make as much sense wearing the blindfold as the disabled in casts. Ha! She tried not to wander too far from the conversation taking form before her, shaking her head, slightly and quickly.

Aveira shook her hand, but didn't let go. She pulled it to her and bit the palm, fangs slicing smoothly through the skin. it was a shallow wound and probably only hurt for a few moments. Licking her palm for a few moments, Aveira quickly released it. When she spoke again, her voice was a little more grounded, but still smooth. "You have the the Rhesus factor," she said, meaning the protein that marks blood as either positive or negative. "That's good. 'A' positive, maybe?"

She blinked a few times, but her gaze didn't ever shift to Alice. "I'm Aveira," she said as she remembered the girl's original question. "I've lived her for a very long time."

Alice took her hand back in utter shock, eyes wide, not knowing what was going on at all. She stared at the woman's eyes as they blinked, though remaining still, eyes wide.
What in the hell was that? Alice rubbed the palm of her hand, trying to forget the strange sensation. And just why the hell did she do that?

After a moment, just barely regaining her senses, she asked, "What do you mean a long time?" Her voice was shaking with fear, and she herself could hear it.
Please don't let her catch on...

Aveira heard the fear, felt it in her heart, and broke out in the most breathtaking smile. She was truly beautiful when she smiled. Unless the person seeing the smile happened to know the reason for it, that is. It was possible that Alice didn't, but one could never be too sure. "You said you just moved here. I haven't. I've been here all my life. I could show you around, if you like." She giggled a little. "I'd tell you not to be shy because I don't bite, but...that's obviously not true."

Her voice held laughter in it. Anyone looking at her would think she was the sweetest girl in the world. Looks were always deceiving, though. If Alice knew what Aveira had in store for her, she'd probably run away very quickly. It was too bad for her that she didn't...

Oh shit... just... oh shit...
Alice felt a strange cold fall upon her, and shivered slightly. The giggle, the smile, her voice... Now it was nothing more than the fuel of her fears.
And yet... how could she get away, even if she tried? If this strange woman had simply dropped next to her, she had to be nimble...
If I go... I die... If I run, I die. If I stand here silently, I will still probably die. Why did I stop carrying my gun?

"I have somewhere I have to be... soon..." Alice said, still shaking. "Maybe some other time, nay?" She held her ground afraid to move.

She is blind...

Her smile fell instantly. She looked heartbroken and ever so fragile. "I don't want you to go," she hissed, voice the complete opposite of her sad expression. It was low and dangerous, as different from her previous voice as day is from night. Although she still looked like an innocent blind girl, her voice betrayed her in its malice. This was a voice that belonged to a killer with little hold on reality.

"Please don't leave me here all alone." The innocence was back in her voice. She sounded young and delicate again. No trace of the previous venom remained, leaving one to wonder if it had ever really been there in the first place.

This isn't a position to stand in...

Alice tried to gather herself. Slipping in tone gave away the acting, but the expression had its ambiguities.

"Then what is it that you want?" Alice inquired, attempting to hide the tremble in her voice and continue her friendly persona.

"I just want to be friends," she said innocently. "Don't you want to be friends?"

Alice was torn between fear and pity, and neither truly seemed appropriate. The harsh tone still lingered in her mind, leaving a suspicion. Contemplating too long could drive this girl to another outburst, which couldn't be pleasant?

Alice twisted her lips in thought. I honestly can't help but give in...
"Would you like to maybe go for coffee?" She smiled, as if the gesture would help disguise the slight paranoia in her voice.

"Okay!" Aveira said cheerfully. She pulled her blindfold back down over her eyes and bounced to her feet, immediately happy. She didn't actually like coffee, but most cafes served various fruity drinks, which she loved very much. Besides, she really did want to make friends with this girl. Alice was pretty. Aveira wanted her like a child wants a doll. She enjoyed beautiful things and wanted to be around them. It wasn't really that she enjoyed Alice's company; it was more that she enjoyed her physical beauty. While she couldn't see her form, she could sense it in her mind's eye. Alice was young and in good shape and though Aveira doubted she would ever see much of her, she couldn't help but desire to surround herself with all things beautiful. It was for this reason that she had to possess Alice. She needed her.

Holding out her hand, she waited for Alice to lead her to the cafe. While she was perfectly able to navigate herself, it was best to appear fragile and make the most of this flaw. It would only scare her even more if she knew that Aveira could see almost as well without her eyes as she could with them.

Alice took the Aveira's hand and started off for the nearest road leading out toward the city.
She's peculiar... and I don't know if that's a good or a bad thing. It's not really an option to just run off at this point, and it wasn't for quite some time. I can only hope she's not some kind of murderer. She laughed lightly. She seems innocent enough, though. At least nice enough.

She paused a moment, realizing she was unsure whether the girl had a preference or not.
"Is there anywhere specific you would like to go?" she asked, not wanting to impose or disappoint.

Aveira shook her head. She was content to go wherever Alice wanted to go.

Alice nodded, to no avail. "Alright, then." She smiled and closed her eyes as she walked, wondering how it was to be blind.
She opted to wait until they were at the coffee house to start any conversations. It would be a better suited environment, after all.
